From August 31st, 2018 to September 1st, 2018

The OSM Classical Spree is a highlight for music lovers from all over the world.

On August 31 and September 1, come celebrate classical music at Complexe Desjardins’s La Grande-Place and on stage at our terraces—for our Pause estivale!

August 31

12 p.m.: Music from the Fusiliers Mont-Royal (brass band with approximately 15 musicians)

3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.: Spree Symphony rehearsal

An orchestra made up of musicians from around the province will perform a concert at complexe Desjardins under Adam Johnson, the resident conductor, and Kent Nagano, musical director of OSM.

6:30 p.m.: Classical Spree Ensemble—Piazzolla Concert

A concert entirely dedicated to Argentinean composer Astor Piazzolla and to tango. The Classical Spree Ensemble, made up of OSM musicians and former winners of the OSM Manulife Competition, will be conducted by Dina Gilbert.

7:45 p.m.: Tango Workshop with the Las Piernas studio and the Paratango quartet

Argentinian tango will (almost) no longer be a secret for you after the workshops offered by Manuel Soto and dancers of the Las Piernas studio. Through demonstrations, you will learn about the history and steps of this mythical dance. Music will be performed by the ParaTango group, made up of a bandoneon, violin, piano, and double bass.

Jonathan Goldman, bandoneon

Chantal Bergeron, violin

Simon Gregorcic, piano

Denis Chabot, double bass

Septembre 1st

11 a.m.: Oktopus

A klezmer music ensemble, Oktopus is 8 Montrealers inspired by the traditional klezmer, Yiddish, and gypsy repertoires. However, the group wants to give this traditional Eastern European music a second wind by making it travel to Bulgaria, to Russia, and to the Maghreb.

The celebration of klezmer music will be at the heart of this festive and wistful show tinted with classical music.

1 p.m.: Wind Orchestra of College Notre-Dame

3:00 p.m.: Free Grand Concert: THE CLASSICAL SPREE SYMPHONY

In partnership with the Fédération des harmonies et des orchestres du Québec (FHOSQ) and ICI MUSIQUE, the OSM has brought together amateur musicians from the four corners of the province to form the Classical Spree Symphony! This one-of-a-kind ensemble will present an exhilarating concert conducted by Adam Johnson and Kent Nagano.

4:30 p.m.: La Petite bande de Montréal

A choir made up of 24 choristers singing a varied repertoire including Gilles Vigneault.
