Laine. De la fibre au bal

Exhibition

From September 17 to 22, 2024, Complexe Desjardins will host the exhibition Laine. De la fibre au bal, presented by Fibershed Québec as part of Montreal Fashion Week 2024. This event, imagined by Philippe Denis, will showcase local wool and those behind its transformation and valorization. It will also pay tribute to fashion designer Francine Vandelac, the tricoteuse du Québec. Several themes will be presented as part of this exhibition.

The first theme, transformation, will present the various stages that sheep's fleece goes through before being used in the composition of a garment. It will also summarize the importance of wool in local history, both rural and artisanal, urban and industrial.

The second theme, homage, will present Francine Vandelac's career and some clothing creations. It will highlight her work, characterized by the exploitation of knitwear and its possibilities, which decompartmentalized knitting from the domestic economy with which it had long remained associated.

The third theme, possibilities, will reveal how wool fibre can be worked while demonstrating its continuing appeal to the new generation. Creations will be made for the occasion.

Throughout this exhibition in the Grande-Place du Complexe Desjardins, you'll discover spectacular hanging installations, mannequins dressed in unique creations, installations symbolizing the eco-responsibility of wool, and much more!

Immerse yourself in the history of this fibre, a staple of today's trends. Everyone is welcome, from fashion enthusiasts to the general public.
